How precious is our Aquamarine?

Updated: Nov 24, 2021

Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family, but what is it? This "family" is a famous and high-grade gemstone. Within this family, green gemstones containing chromium or vanadium ions as colouring elements are called Emeralds. I believe everyone has heard of Emeralds and they could be found in big jewellery stores. Emerald is one of the three famous precious gemstones: Blue Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald. The use and appreciation of Emerald has existed as far back as ancient Egypt.

Beryls, including Aquamarine and Emerald, have high hardness and bright fire. While Emerald contains chromium or vanadium ions to appear in green, Aquamarine contains iron ions, making it appear in a refreshing range of green-blue colours. In recent years, the price of aquamarine has been rising. I can tell a little story about it here. In 1953, after Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom was crowned, she received Aquamarine jewellery from Brazil, and her love for Aquamarine became even greater. Later, she also added to Aquamarine her jewellery crown.

Due to the limited mineral resources, it is rare to mine Aquamarine with high clarity and good colour. The high-quality aquamarine from major gem merchants is gradually out of stock. From the beginning of 2019 to 2020, the price has raised a lot - more than a double.

In the market, there are quite a lot of cheap Aquamarine products like beads bangles which have unknown origins, and many of them have been artificially enhanced. These Aquamarine crystals were bleached with acid, treated with polymer impregnation and dyed. But here we do not use any artificial Aquamarine. On the contrary, we strive to directly source natural Aquamarine from mineral sources around the world. And then we set them with minimal design, to provide the most purest Aquamarine to all of you.
